Anatolian Music Conservatory And Museum
Ringabell is a proposal for an Anatolian music conservatory and museum on the Çatladıkapı waterfront of Istanbul’s historic peninsula. Its location opposite the ruins of Boukoleon Palace connects music education with cultural routes and waterfront life. The conservatory supports making, while the museum considers the past, present and future of Anatolian music.
Alongside basic music education, the programme proposes spaces for musicology, theory, composition, voice, instruments, dance and music technology. A concert hall, recording and control rooms, archive, library and exhibitions complete the programme. At selected points, the museum route offers views into teaching, laboratory and recording spaces, bringing visitors into contact with musical production.
The arrangement considers approaches from both street and shore. Voids carved from the mass form courtyards, passages and meeting places. Colonnades and broad overhangs accommodate public circulation in different weather conditions, while thresholds between teaching and exhibition regulate the relationship between observer and maker.
Reinforced concrete columns and floors establish a horizontal mass, complemented by steel-supported roofs and balconies. A southward-sloping roof arrangement aims to bring light into circulation and central spaces. Vertical sunshades work with glazed surfaces to give the waterfront facades their rhythm.
